And Yet
What happens when nothing happens? No breakthrough. No revelation. No miraculous answer to prayer. Just life happening somewhere between the plot points—between the prayer and the answer, between knowing something needs to change and knowing what that change is supposed to be. I don't know what any of this means yet. Maybe that's why I'm writing it now instead of six months from now when I can tell you what it meant. Because maybe faith in the middle isn't certainty about what happens next. Maybe it's certainty about who is still there while I wait.
How’s Jesus Holding You Up?
Sometimes faith isn’t the absence of fear. Sometimes it’s what we choose to do while we’re still afraid. On a morning filled with dread, worry, and worst-case scenarios, I was reminded that I don’t have to silence every fear or figure out what happens next. I just have to keep returning—to scripture, to trust, and to the God who is already holding what I’m trying so desperately to carry.
Finding God in the And
My daughter Maggie is leaving to serve a mission for our church and this afternoon was her farewell in church. She asked me to be the second speaker along with a musical number that included MANY of her aunts, uncles, and cousins. It was a powerful meeting and I was honored to be asked to do that for her. After the service, several people asked me for a copy of my thoughts. I figured I’d just post them here as this was a momentous day for me and for her and I’d love it preserved forever. So, without further ado, here is the talk I gave in church today: March 8, 2026.
I Don’t Actually Know What Thriving Looks Like Just Yet
I keep saying I want to thrive—but the truth is, I don’t actually know what thriving looks like just yet. What I do know is what thriving isn’t. I know what I’m done accepting and putting up with. I know what surviving has felt like, and I know what no longer fits.
There’s a lot of discomfort in ambiguity. In uncertainty. In the unknown. Taking a leap of faith is terrifying as hell. Just watch that scene from Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade and you’ll know exactly what I mean.
